Tuesday 12 June - Rough Seas

Last night we had a storm come in and the ship was bouncing about. I woke up sleeping on my side and was swaying back and forth so much I had to finally lay on my back. At breakfast they announced that all boats and helicopters going to shore had been cancelled till further notice. It looks like the swells are about 10 feet with the size and number of the whitecaps even bigger.

I took my work out stuff to the department so I can go to the gym to keep busy. Did a deep clean of the department. We did a group info on ultrasound and I was the patient. The ultrasound ladies showed what a GB, liver, kidney and thyroid. Madison & Jennifer tried it and then Jen was my patient. Interesting to try and move the transducer to move from axial cut to sagittal. Harder than it looks.

Had a much longer lunchthan usual. We then tested the radpro (the portable chest x-ray unit for the pier.) to make sure the generator would run the machine and get an exposure. Rest of the day was pretty slow. Just trying to stay awake. The ceremony on the island was cancelled as the waves were pretty bad all day, which was too bad as some of our ladies were scheduled to go and it would have been their first time off the ship as they work the night shift. From what I have heard I guess the front crane that loads one of the shuttle boats on to the ship was damaged as well as the lower dock we use to get on and off into the smaller shuttle boats. They don't know how badly damaged it is as the waves were high most of the day and no one could get off to see the far side of the dock. They had the helicopter pick up the medcap people that were on shore for the last 5 days. We are supposed to leave this island at 7:00 pm but we do not know what the plans are for the next few days. There is another loading dock but it is higher up in the side of the ship so I think they are figuring it all out how they could people down to the one remaining shuttle boat. It is all an adventure and you have to be flexible in so many ways when you don't have the ability to get things fixed like at home. Will keep you posted if I get off tomorrow, otherwise I made it off the ship once, so I am good.

We are having trouble with the Internet/ wifi/emails so I have to find locations that it connects. Need to carry the iPad a bit more. Danielle the memory says I have about 1.2G left so I may be deleting my personal pictures. Can you give me a step by step so I don't delete the whole thing or wrong way.

Much appreciated. Otherwise just sitting back and waiting till things get worked out so not much to tell. Will see if I can go down and play Ratuki with some people or coloring books. Any ideas for games to play that you don't need too many things and it doesn't take too much to translate?  Please send us a list!! Hope Maddie is doing OK at camp. Mont you might want to remind the bishop he has Bishop's night up there. Love you guys and have fun this week. Mom/Caroline

  1. It's amazing how much a storm can change everything for you guys. I hope and pray you will continue to be safe. It was great to talk with you today.

We played a dice game for FHE on the mission. Everyone has a piece of paper and there is one pen. If you roll doubles, you get to steal the pen and start writing from 1-100. I guess you could do something instead of numbers if that isn't the same with other people. It sounds simple, but people get really competative. So if you can find some dice, that might be fun.

Hope all continues to go well! Love you!
